Driving times in the Calgary and the Canadian Rockies vary throughout the year dependant on driving conditions and the times listed are based on optimum driving conditions.  To truly experience Calgary and the Canadian Rockies allow yourself some extra time to stop and explore points of interest along the way.  Calgary and the Canadian Rockies is a four-season destination and even during the snow season roads are generally in excellent driving conditions.  The speed limit on major highways is 110 km per hour (approximately 70 miles per hour) with a drop in speed through the national parks (90 km per hour or approximately 55 miles per hour on the main highways).  The primary reason for the drop in speed through the parks is to aid in the safety of the area wildlife.  Drivers need to be aware of wildlife on the road in all areas of Alberta in particular during dusk and dawn.
